Hi everyone,

The Lupus Dietitian here! As a healthcare professional, a registered dietitian (RD) nutritionist has unique skills that can help individuals achieve their health goals. But what exactly can an Registered Dietitian Nutritionist do for you, and what are the limits of my expertise?

First and foremost, it's important to understand that Registered Dietitian Nutritionists are nutrition experts who have completed a rigorous education and training process.

All Registered Dietitian Nutritionists must hold at least a bachelor's degree in nutrition or science, complete a supervised internship, and pass a national exam. They also need to maintain their certification through continuing education and professional development.

Personally, I did my Undergraduate and Master's degree in Nutrition and then have worked in the nutrition field now for nearly 15 years!

With that in mind, let's take a closer look at what an Registered Dietitian Nutritionist can and cannot do for a client:

What I CAN DO:

  1. Provide individualized nutrition counseling: I can provide personalized nutrition plan based on your specific needs, goals, and preferences. I personalize each and every plan to the person I’m working with!

  2. Develop meal plans: An RD can create meal plans that are tailored to a client's dietary requirements. I love to make this exactly your taste or base it on the recipes you love!

  3. Educate clients on nutrition: I can help you understand the science behind nutrition and how it affects your health. We talk about how to read food labels and make healthy choices when dining out.

  4. Help manage medical conditions: I work with clients who have medical conditions like Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, celiac disease, other autoimmune diseases and diabetes, or heart disease to develop a nutrition plan that supports your health.

  5. Provide support and accountability: I offer a LOT of ongoing support and motivation to help you stay on track with your nutrition goals. I offer SO much guidance, step-by-step help and support to my clients that many say it's more than they could have ever imagined would be included. I’ve got you!

What I can NOT do as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist:

  1. Diagnose medical conditions: I can help you manage your medical conditions through nutrition, I cannot diagnose medical conditions or prescribe medication.

  2. Provide medical treatment: I cannot provide medical treatment for any conditions beyond their scope of practice.

  3. Perform medical procedures: I cannot perform medical procedures, such as blood tests or surgery.

In conclusion, a registered dietitian nutritionist is an important resource for anyone looking to improve their nutrition and overall health. While I can provide personalized nutrition counseling, meal planning, supplementation plan, and education, I cannot diagnose medical conditions, provide medical treatment, prescribe medications or do medical procedures. By working with an RD, clients can receive expert guidance and support to help them achieve their health goals.
